Google will soon let you know every time you log onto a site that isn’t secure. In February, Google announced a new initiative that is aimed to protect users who utilize the Chrome browser.
Some websites are considered “not secure” by Google because they are not utilizing an SSL certificate, which is a form of security meant to protect both the website and the user. Websites that utilize a certificate are prefaced with HTTPS:// instead of HTTP://.
After the February announcement, the company started to gradually label HTTP sites as “not secure,” and by July 2018 all sites not using an SSL certificate will be labeled “not secure.” The image above is an example of what a “not secure” message will look like.
The company said it hopes the change will help with the push for a more secure internet.
